How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles then absord the light, which in turn destroys the follicle leaving the skin smooth and hair-free.
Will it be painful?
During laser hair removal, patients report a snapping feeling. For the most part, the ice that comes out while the laser is on will cover the laser sensation. A small number of patients report minor itching, redness or swelling in the treatment area that subsides within a few days.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Theoretically, damage to the hair follicle can remove unwanted hair permanently, but because of the nature of hair and the many factors that influence the growth of hair, the results vary from client to client. The effect of repeated treatments is cumulative, with 90 percent of clients experience permanent hair loss.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Compare to any other hair removal treatment, (i.e. waxing, plucking…) laser hair removal treatment may have less side effects. The precise laser parameters used for each laser hair removal system was carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the color of laser light and the pulse duration to the size, depth, and location of the hair follicle. This research has resulted in a safe technique that effectively reduces the risk of scarring and most other complications following treatment.
Who are the candidates for this treatment?
In fact, laser therapy uses an intense beam of light to remove unwanted hair in a process called photothermolysis. The heat of the laser is absorbed by pigment or melanin in the hair root, causing damage to the follicle, which stops future hair growth. The higher amount of melanin or the darker the hair, the more the light is absorbed and the more effective the hair removal. In another word, the laser picks up the contrast between the hair follicle and the skin pigment. People with light hair (i.e. blond, grey), the hair to skin pigmentation difference is much less, so the laser will be less effective. However, Bared Monkey offers the latest hair removal technology, our Alma Soprano Diode laser is specifically designed for use on light AND dark skin tones, so limitations are minimal. Prior to the treatment, we will evaluate your skin type and adjust the settings base on your hair and skin color to ensure the optimum results.
